Review of the Cigar itself: After having a stressful holiday (thanks to airline FUBARs) and not being able to enjoy a cigar to relax (I wanted to be respectful of my relatives space) it was nice to be able to come back to enjoy a cigar. I had heard about Slow-Age when I was in Baltimore and had picked one up, leaving it in my humidor until I could enjoy it at my leisure. I inhaled the delicious scent of the rich Maduro wrapper and the aged long filler inside. As I toasted the end, I pondered what the next year will bring. New York had threatened to increase taxes on cigars and they will do so. But it seems that there is a limitation as to how much it will be. In the end, it will be the convenience store cigars that will face the biggest increase while premium cigars may see an overall price decrease, particularly on box purchases. It could mean I could get more of these Perdomos.
The cigar toasted beautifully and maintained a consistent, even burn. While full in flavour, it wasn’t overwhelming for the tastebuds. There was a very faint taste of pepper in the background. The primary taste was that of an aged cedar, burning gently. It is the kind of cigar that one could enjoy in front of a wood burning stove on a cold night. The taste remained consistent throughout the cigar until I got into the last third. There I noticed subtle hints of sweet creamy coffee intertwined with the smokey cedar.
The construction was quite good and the band came off with the simplest of tugs. There were a couple of noticeable veins and the wrapper was very slightly loose but otherwise, it was well designed and built. As I got down to the last bit, the taste began to wane a little and the sweetness turned a bit bitter. Overall this wasn’t a bad cigar, particularly given the price. Cigar International have these cigars at a mere $2 each, which makes them an excellent deal for the price and potentially a new regular cigar for those looking for a good but cheap cigar.
